I found out about this cool Honey Farm near Okotoks and made a fun Saturday out of it with my hubby and two of my sisters and their husbands (and baby Missy!).
The "tour" was mostly just a man talking to us about honey bees but it was still super interesting. Seriously, these insects are amazing. Like, did you know they do this little bum wiggle dance to tell the other bees where to go to find good flowers? Or that the Queen Bee lays up to 2,500 eggs/day in the Summer? Crazy!
Of course when we all met up at the farm, the first person we all wanted to see is Missy! She is so cute!
This working beehive is so cool. There's a hole in the wall where the bees fly in and out.
Missy really liked the bees. She kept reaching out to them and her eyes were so big.
Jordan bought this big bear of honey. Yum! They said if you eat it regularly, it helps with allergies!
They had lots of local made honey products. We bought the above bear, some Saskatoon berry/honey jam, small honey "straws", and ice cream sweetened with honey! So good!
Missy liked this little purse! Actually she wanted to eat it. She kept putting it in her mouth!
Great company. It was a cute hidden gem. Here is their website: http://www.chinookhoney.com/
We then went to Black Diamond and went to this Old Fashioned Diner. I don't think we would recommend it though. We got really bad service! Oh well...
Missy got totally freaked out by this Indian Statue!
We then went to this neat rock called Big Rock (How original). haha. It's pretty neat because it seems so out of place in the prairies. It was carried here on a glacier.
I really like this one of all three boys. They are all so awesome.
Keeping Missy out of the sun. What a sweet little girl.
James - Mountain Man!
Megan was really adventurous and got really high on the rock!
A group of grad kids climbed to the top. There were also two guys rock climbing on the side. (They were all professional with chalk and everything)
Then, back in Calgary, Jordan and I did a little geocaching. This one was so tiny! Don't know what geocaching is? Check out this website http://www.geocaching.com/. There's a really good little video on there with all the details. We just bought the app so we are really into it again!
This one had lots of little kid toys in it. We need to get some cool things to put in the caches. We were thinking of having some stickers made. Our profile name is ToalBuds so we'll have to design some cool stickers or temporary tattoos. Can you do that? Make your own temporary tattoos?Jordan is the cutest boy ever!
We almost gave up on this one! Very clever hiding spot (see movie)
A pine tree cache (there's a lot like this in Calgary)
That's all for now folks! See you at our next adventure!
